Mississippi Sah-weet Potato casserole for all you lovely gals

This is a picture of Anne Marie opening her oven on Thanksgiving day.
Actually it's not. I just know I should have a picture of a beautifully made casserole, and I don't for 2 reasons. I don't like pictures of casseroles, and I've never actually made this recipe myself. So I stole this picture from the yahoo.com homepage. (Aren't you so thankful you gave me permission to post on your blog, AM?)

This recipe is for that rare celebrative occasion to gorge yourself. It's the dish my aunt always brings on Thanksgiving day. And OH! Let me count the ways! She actually acquired it from a friend born and raised in Mississippi. What is it with cooking and the South? They just know butter. Is that politically correct?

3 cups mashed sweet potato (canned is fine)
3/4 cup granulated sugar (white)
2 eggs
1/2 cup melted butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Topping Ingredients:
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1/3 cup butter

* Mix first 5 ingredients and pour into buttered casserole dish. (Use small casserole dish for single recipie, or a 9x13 for a double recipe.)
* Mix topping ingredients until crumbly and sprinkle on potato mixture (try to cover the top completely)
* Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees

Happy Thanksgiving! May your tables be lovely with all the joys of food, family, and friends! And wine. ;)

  1. Mmmmm... Wine... Funny story: We were at mass, and during the part where they say "We have this wine to offer..." Audrey says quite loudly, "Mom! YOU like wine!" I about died.

  2. LOL! I probably shouldn't have put that. I might come off as a lush. Though, I WILL miss my wine this year.

  3. Thanks for sharing this recipe. It sounds delicious and I will have to try it.
My Thanksgiving menu is set already but I might make the casserole on Saturday.
    Happy gobble gobble Thanksgiving

We love lovely gals showin' some love!
