drawers-turned-shadow boxes

I'd been looking for some storage for my 6-year-old boy's room, and figured these drawers would do the trick for $0. They were the leftover drawers from the hutch's corny lower half. I am in the process of brainstorming a Star Wars room for him, and thought these would make cool starship window boxes for his walls. Windows into outer space.

The wall is blank next to his large dresser, and I wanted to put some shelves there. Enter corny drawers. And I think they get the job done. Whoopeee! Warning: Put 5 or 10 studded screws with those plastic sleeves to secure them. Remember... it IS for a 6-yr-old boy.

When you fleck the paint (just in case any of you are wanting to do the star trick), make sure you have a large amount of paint on a stiff, small brush. The size of a thumb. Don't flick the brush with your wrist. If you do this, you'll get the 80's splatters. Rub the thumb over the brush to flick the bristles just enough to get tiny dots. The great thing about paint, is you can always have courage. Because you can always paint right over it and try again.
